Ukay Mojo #8

It's now pretty cold where I live. I don't know how to describe how cold it is cause we don't have a room thermometer, but it's the time of the year I dread taking a bath even at noon (I don't heat my bath water).

The weather will stay this way until mid-Feb. I have issues with my feet and they get cold pretty easily, so the days between New Year and Valentine's, are the days I'm really convinced there is no way I can live in a country like Canada.

And because it's cold, I get to wear my jackets and sweatshirts :)

Today's outfit:

Forget the fug face, look at my sweatshirt. Stuff like this don't get picked up at the thrift store, so they are put on sale and then I buy them :)

It has the cutest print! And it makes me look like I have 3 arms, yes? Maybe I should have taken a photo with the third "arm" actually sticking out. It's by HK designer Pacino Wan, thrifted for less than US $3. I think I even got this for just $2, I can't remember anymore. Sorry, I'm just wearing a random pair of denim shorts and Chucks, with my hair up in a pony tail; I'm just at home cause it's New Year's eve!

The past year has been awesome. There will be a few challenges for our family in the first quarter of 2011, we'll just face them, and do our best. I'm sure everything will be OK.

I have only one prayer now and that is-- to have more money than I could spend. I don't usually pray for money. I like saying Thank You prayers because I really believe I have a great life. I used to have this guilt thing going on about money. Well not anymore. Now, I want money. It's hard to announce to the world you want more money than you could spend without sounding greedy. So I guess I shouldn't even try to explain myself. I just really would like a lot of money.

2011, I'm ready for you. Please bring with you cash.

The Airwalk Good Shoe Project

I don't know how I feel about this.

On one hand, it's great that more companies are giving back to the community. On the other hand, I don't feel comfortable that the Airwalk hope shoes look like Tom's. Tom's is the first company (that I know of) to start the 1 for 1 project. Of course, Tom's does not have a monopoly on good intentions (or good shoes for that matter) but...I don't know.

Classic Tom's in Black

Airwalk Hope Shoes

I first heard of Tom's from Bianca Gonzales' blog about 2 years ago. I really thought the project was admirable but I never got around to buying a pair. I mostly buy shoes from ukay (thrift stores) after all.

I really like how the Tom's shoes look, especially the Cordones:

The Airwalk Hope Shoes are $19.99; Tom's are at least $49.

Even with a $30 dollar difference, I'm more inclined to getting the Tom's. There really is cost involved in designing nice shoes and in running an ethical company. What I'm saying is, if we want good companies to flourish, we should really support them. The only way Tom's can continue to sell shoes is if it can continue designing good shoes. I'm not saying Airwalk isn't a good company. I guess I just like the idea behind Tom's better.

But really, if you can afford it, just give without expecting anything in return. If you can afford to give $19.99- $ 49 to help a poor family without getting a pair of shoes in return, go on ahead.

Here is the link to the World Vision-PH website, you can make a one-time donation or you can sponsor the education of a child. World Vision is Airwalk's partner for the Good Shoe Project.

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone had a fun Christmas.

I did. I'm still trying to sort the photos because my husband took photos of every.single.thing.

We stayed at the New World Hotel in Makati. We checked in on the 24th and checked out today, the 26th.

The plan was to go swimming and to hit the gym everyday. I swam and pigged out instead. We swam everyday for 3 days. We had buffet lunch for 2 days (on Christmas day at M2M, New World Hotel; and today at Cabalen, Glorietta). We ate fast food the rest of the time.

 Day 1 Swim :)

Christmas Day Lunch: Plate 2

With Jay's Family for Christmas Day Lunch  :) Wish I had a better photo :/

The amount of food Jay and I consumed at M2M was pretty disgusting. I only had a bit of rice but I had 2 slices of roast beef, siomai, veggies, beef mechado, shrimp tempura, Gruyere cheese, prosciutto, California maki, Kani maki, spring chicken with walnuts, Ceasar salad, shrimp salad, lamb chop, banana tiramisu, melon dipped in chocolate, and 2 scoops of ice cream (mango and chocolate).

Today, I didn't eat as much food as yesterday but I still ate too much.

Day 3 Lunch: Cabalen Buffet- First Plate

I had to go for 2 servings of my fave Cabalen food:

Ginataang Kuhol (Snails in Coconut Milk)

In the afternoon of December 25, I watched Rosario with Jay's cousins. I'm not sure if I'll do a review of the movie. Anyway, I was not exactly blown away by it, but I still think it's worth the P190. Here's the moral lesson of the movie: Do not sleep around. Seriously.

The malls closed early on December 24 and 25, so we mostly just bummed around in our hotel room at night. We ate snacks, slept early, talked with Jay's brother who did not leave the hotel for 3 days cause he was sick, and a whole bunch of random, lazy stuff.

It was the first time for us to spend Christmas away home; it was a lot less stressful than staying at home.

p.s. As promised, here's a photo of the doll house we had made for Nicole:

It's nice, and really big, but I think Beds by Fraz could have done a better job sanding the wood and painting it. Nic loves it though, so we're still glad we got it for her for Christmas. It goes well with the Pinypon set from Santa :)

A Huge Hypocrite

That's what the Doc Martens S/S 11 collection is turning me into.

I believe excessive amount of shoes= sad earth. These Doc Martens are making me forget :'-(

People shouldn't buy more shoes than they need.

I don't need new shoes. I can't afford new shoes.

But just look at these:

I mean just look at them!

Look at these:
I'm just going to let out a GIANT sigh.

The lust will wane. I hope soon.

Ukay Mojo #7

I dress like I have learned nothing from watching Tim Gunn.

I have no business folding my pants like this because 1.) I am short, 2.) I am fat, and 3) I am 32 years old!

But I wanted to show off my "new" boots so...

I got this pair of Doc Martens from a thrift store in Tagaytay before my final PT session last Monday. We got this for around $20. Although you can get nice shoes at ukay (thrift store) for as low as $4, we're always willing to spend more for Docs. We love them, and they really last forever.

My daughter calls them "shouldier shoes"; she insists I shouldn't wear them because "they are only for boys". So I had to explain that: 1.) my new Docs are not soldier's boots, and 2.) "There are women soldiers, FYI" (she asked for proof but we were about to leave the house so I told her I'll show her a female soldier on the internet when we get home).

Ukay Mojo #6

I have other things I should be blogging about but right now this is all I have time for. Nicole's schedule is pretty insane this season which means my schedule is pretty crazy too. I'm not complaining; I just need to find a way to be more productive.

Yesterday, I attended a little get-together at Music 88 at Bluewave, Pasay. I wore my latest ukay find. No one will believe how much I paid for this dress. I just picked this up one morning when Jay went to the ukay store to buy shorts. I didn't even have time to go through the racks to get stuff for Magic Baul. :(

Dress: thrifted
Shoes: optical white classic Chuck Taylor, my 2011 shoes (an early Christmas present from Jay)

This is what I wore today to meet up with Philipp who made Nicole's doll house:

Shirt: 50/50 American Apparel (gift)
Skirt: Gap, thrifted
Shoes: Chuck Taylor
Sunglasses: Oakley Ravishing breast cancer awareness ed. (birthday present from Jay)

First PT Session for Plantar Fasciitis

After 1 million years, I finally had my left foot checked. I do have Plantar Fasciitis. Jay can't believe I've had this daily pain on my left heel for months and I only had it checked today. He said he thought my foot only hurt after I run and since I haven't been running, he thought I hadn't been experiencing pain. What a silly boy. We've been together almost 15 years and he doesn't realize I'll avoid going to the doctor until a body part actually falls off or explodes.

According to Wikipedia, Plantar Fasciitis is the swelling of the Plantar Fascia, the tissue that extends from the heel bone to the toes. I have been trying to give my left foot the rest that it needs, but it's been almost 3 months since I stopped running daily and my heel still hurts, so it was really time to go see a doctor.

I had my first PT session today and my left foot now feels awesome. The therapist used an ultrasound machine to massage my heel. Then he wrapped my foot in a warm towel while a small device shot electric pulses to my foot.

My Left Foot Wrapped in a Hot Towel (photo taken with my phone)

The therapist (his name is Nikko) then stretched my foot several times and then asked me to do this exercise where I "clawed" a long towel with my toes :-P

 Muscle Tape for Support

My foot is now taped. I will go back to Tagaytay Hospital on Wednesday to undergo another PT session. The therapist told me to do the stretching exercises at home.

I still can't run though, not until I get new running shoes. The doctor advised me to go to Runnr in Bonifacio High Street, Makati to get properly fitted for running shoes since my left foot seems flat-footed. And since I have no budget for new shoes, I will have to take a longer break from running. :( The doctor also advised me to get heel cups or shoe inserts to lessen the strain on my heels.

Off the Wagon

I have fallen off the wagon. I'm off reasonable dieting and off the running routine.

I really should continue to run but when I tried going back to it 2 weeks ago, my left foot hurt like hell the day after. I really should go see a podiatrist.

I don't think I've gained all the weight back but I feel fat.

The thing that really sucks is I'm back to drinking close to 1 liter of soda daily. I don't know how that happened. Yeah, I suck.

Alright, I'm just going to have to get back on the wagon. I will probably have to punish myself this month for every piece of ham, chicken and pastry I will put in my mouth.
